Our route

Our Travel4more-journey begins in Australia – the driest and flattest continent on earth. Australia seems to offer something for everyone; rugged gorges and expansive outback, immense swathes of rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef – the largest coral reef in the world – which stretches around than 2,300 km along the east coast.

Our journey starts in Melbourne and leads us along the south coast via the Great Ocean Road. From there we head back inland towards Melbourne and follow the Great Alpine Road into Kanagroo Valley, before diving into Australia’s largest city – Sydney. We continue our drive along the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast to Byron Bay, Brisbane, Rainbow Beach and many other small beach towns, leading our route up the east coast (including Fraser Iceland and the Whitsunday Islands) before we drive inlands from Townsville to Alice Springs. We are convinced that Uluru (Ayers Rock) is worth a detour, and drive south from Alice Springs, before we go back north to Darwin. Darwin is the conclusion of our stay in Australia and opens the doors for us to Indonesia, Asia.

Interesting facts..

More than 100,000 so-called Surf Life Savers save about 10,000 lives annually when patrolling the 28,500km long coastline of Down Under. And with more than 7,000 beaches you are almost guaranteed to find a beautiful, lonely spot. With a population of just under 22 million people, one little soul theoretically inhabits 2.5 km², (compare for example Germany with 229 people/km²). Consequently foreigners arrive in Australia without much enthusiasm to leave – and so the number of “Australians” grows every year by a quarter of a million.

The tourist visa is free and valid for 3 months! In 2010, 5.9 million people have travelled to Australia (increase of 2.3%), while most of the tourists come from New Zealand, England, China and the United States. According to the Australian tourism office, the travel sector contributes 2.6% to the Australian GDP – at least $ 34 billion. In 2010, almost 4.5% of people working in Australia were employed in the tourism sector!
